Shade Frank Gambill

Elkin Mr. Shade Frank Gambill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, went home on March 25, 2008. Mr. Gambill, age 92 was a resident of the Shoaly Branch Community. He was born in Wilkes County on August 28, 1915 to Marcus H. and Mary Jane Walker Gambill. He was married 61 years to Fannie Sidden Gambill, who preceded him in death on February 6, 2008. Mr. Gambill, a WWII veteran, farmed and worked at Chatham Manufacturing Company for 32 years. He served as a deacon at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church and was an avid gardner. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Nina Stone Gambill; brothers, Millard Gambill, Roy Gambill, and Cecil Gambill and by sisters, Bessie Towe, Emmaline Bunker and Cory Norman. Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Day and husband James of Monroe; a son, Larry Gambill and wife Nettie of Mooresville, a brother, Charlie Gambill and wife Lucille of Thurmond, three sisters, Gertrude Bowers of Traphill, Ruth Broyhill of Moravian Falls, and Marie Hampton and husband Dale of Boone, five grandchildren, Wendy Day Cockerham and husband Jason, Andrew James Day and wife Kara, David Franklin Day, Jessica Gambill Harcar and husband Michael, Lindsay Annette Gambill and three great grandsons, Jesse Marcus Cockerham, Caleb Avery Cockerham and Seth James Cockerham. The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers Lee Orange and Rebecca Steeleman and to the staff at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Shoaly Branch Baptist Church, 1646 Shoaly Branch Road, Elkin, NC 28621. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Shoaly Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Wilmoth, Rev. Kenny Wood and the Rev. Jesse Miles. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gambill will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
