Mrs. Maggie Hampton March, age 89, of Jonesville passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. March was born September 18, 1920 in Wilkes County to Grace Hampton. She was an active and faithful member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She will always be remembered for the delicious meals that she prepared, as well as her irresistible pound cakes and other baked goods. Mrs. March was a loyal wife, sister and a devoted member to her family. She was a loving caregiver to many children, the sick and elderly of the Elkin community. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her husband John March, "daughter" Johnsie Hudspeth, and brothers Kemp Hampton and Ralph Hampton. Survivors include "daughter" Dana Shepherd of Elkin; sisters Gertrude Hampton of Jonesville, RV Hague of Jonesville, Sadie Tate of Jonesville, and Dora Welborn of Winston-Salem; loyal friend Nancy Wilkes of Winston-Salem and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Piney Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Clyde Moore and Rev. Johnny Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. March will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service as well as Wednesday afternoon from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church, Bethel Road, Ronda, NC 28670 or Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home at 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
