Elkin Mr. William Fred Shores, age 83, of Dillon Avenue, Elkin, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Shores was born in Surry County to William Arthur & Florence McMillan Shores. Mr. Shores was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church where he had been very active by serving as Elder and trustee for many years and in recent years attended Elkin First United Methodist Church. Fred served on the board of directors of Elkin City Counsel and Mutual Savings and Loan and was a past commissioner of Elkin Fire Department. He was also a past president of Elkin YMCA and was active in Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Shores was a graduate of Fishburn Military Academy in Waynesboro, VA and attended UNC Chapel Hill for 2 years. He retired from Yadkin Finance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Shores Carter. Survivors include: his wife Wilma Hinshaw Shores of the home; two sons, Dr. Art Shores of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Fred Bennett Shores of Elkin; a sister-in-law, Margie Hudspeth of Winston-Salem; four nephews, Perry Hudspeth and wife Nanci of Winston-Salem, Bobby Hudspeth of Manteo, Jim Carter and Jack Carter of Pinehurst; a niece Lynn from Indianapolis, Ind. Funeral services will be held Thursday June 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin First United Methodist Church by Dr. Al Joyner, Rev. Brian Rummage, and nephews Perry Hudspeth and Bobby Hudspeth. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity or to the charity of the donor's choice.
