Elkin Mrs. Emmie Pardue Couch, age 89, of Pleasant Hill Drive, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Couch was born October 7, 1915 in Wilkes County to Julius S. & Drusey Wiles Pardue, Sr. Mrs. Couch was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avery B. Couch, six sisters, Minnie Eller, Vetral Adams, Myrtle Harris, Jessie Pardue, Gertie Lee Luffman and Helen Nickell; two brothers, Wilson Pardue and Archie Pardue. Survivors include: two brothers, Bill R. Pardue and wife Lucille of Elkin, Julius S. Pardue and wife Betty of Roaring River; two sisters, Syble Cheek of Swan Creek, Kate Eller of Columbus, Oh.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Dr. Gary Byrd and Rev. Hillary Wood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Couch will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and the third floor staff at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for their care during her illness.
