Elkin Ms. Mabel Kathleen Sale, age 92 of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Monday, October 22, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Ms. Sale was born November 8, 1914 in Surry County to James Andrew & Navassa Dockery Sale. Mabel attended Elkin High School and Davenport College. She was the first librarian at Elkin Public Library. She retired as an executive secretary from Chatham Manufacturing and served as editor for the "Blanketeer", she was a member of Elkin First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Suzanna Wesley Circle, New Life Sunday School class and a lifelong member of the choir. Mable enjoyed playing bridge, doing needlework, sewing and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fidell Sale and "Dock" Sale. Survivors include: a sister, Lena S. Hedrick of High Point; a niece Susan Hawks and husband Jack of High Point; a great niece, Sara Beth Hawks of Charlotte; a great nephew, Ross Hawks and wife Katharine of San Diego, CA. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin First United Methodist Church by Dr. Charles Baker. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Elkin First United Methodist Church 340 Hawthorne Road, Elkin, NC 28621 or to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
