Mr. James Artis White, age 83, of State Road passed away Thursday April 14, 2011 at Yadkin Nursing Center. Mr. White was born in Wilkes County on April 14, 1928 to James H. and Ella McCann White. Mr. White was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company after 43 years of service. Artis was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Panama during WWII. Artis was a craftsman, woodworker, gun maker and a life-long muzzle loader shooter. He was also a charter member of Yadkin Valley Long Rifles and a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Virginia White and a sister Ruby Snow. Survivors include two sons, Ronny O. White and wife Rexanna, Wade W. White and wife Peggy. A daughter, LaDonna Dare Brinson and husband Donald Bruce all of Elkin. A brother, Billy F. White and wife Jackaye of Wilton Manors, Fla. A sister, Anne Laura Chrisley of Elkin. Four grandchildren, Heather A. Whitley and husband Ken of Elkin, Carrie Renae Collins and husband Joshua Lee of Boonville, Rebekah A. Holbrook and husband Bradley of State Road, James Mattingly Holleman and wife Meagan of Statesville. Five great grandchildren Makayla Carter, Reagan Whitley, Kaley Holbrook, Bryson Whitley and Hailey Ann Holleman. Funeral services will be held Sunday April 17, 2011 at 4pm at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Daniel Merritt and Rev. Danny Dodds. Burial will follow in Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Yadkin County Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 2-3:30pm prior to the service at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center.
