Virginia Rose Brown Landry

September 12, 1930 — April 22, 2011

Elkin Virginia Rose Brown Landry, age 80, passed away Friday April 22, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Landry was born September 12, 1930 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and was the daughter of Harry and Norah Hansard Brown. She and her husband Robert Landry started their life together in Puerto Rico on August 2, 1952. Anyone who knew Virginia knew of her love and dedication to her Puerto Rican heritage. Virginia was an active swimmer, seamstress and couponer, until the end. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Virginia was a strong willed woman that overcame many physical challenges in her life. Until her death she was one of the oldest living Spina Bifida survivors in the world. The family is very grateful to Mountain Valley Hospice for the care and attention they provided this past week for Virginia. Virginia is survived by her husband, Robert C. Landry. Her children, Robert J. Landry and wife Kay, Carol Landry-Fiske and husband John, Richard Landry, Michael Landry and wife Lisa, Kathy Landry, David Landry and wife Regina, Susan Weatherman and husband Tim. Her grandchildren, Holly, Heidi, Chris, Carrie, Ian, Meghan, Meredith, Alec, Anna, Jordan, Kyle and Vincent. Great grandchildren, Clay and Alex. She is also survived by many, many friends. A memorial service will be held on Easter Sunday April 24, 2011 at Elkin United Methodist Church at 3pm conducted by Dr. Church Baker and Rev. Kenny Wood. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
