Elkin Mrs. Connie Ruth Talley Darnell, age 95, passed away Friday, January 26, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Darnell was born July 7, 1911 in Yadkin County to James & Fannie Weatherman Talley. Mrs. Darnell was retired from Chatham Manufacturing where she worked for more than 50 years and was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Darnell; three sisters, Geneva Harris, Vert Cockerham, and Fannie Layell. Survivors include: a son, James T. Darnell of the home; three daughters, Colleen D. Jones and husband Robert S., Joann D. Crater and husband James W. all of Elkin, Nancy D. Price and husband Joe of Bridgewater, VA; seven grandchildren, Donna C. Sallee and husband Bradley D. of Charlotte, Bobby Jones of State Road, Stacey Darnell and husband Donnie of Elkin, James M. Crater of Westerville, OH, Gordon Jones of Thurmond, Mark Price of Hinton, VA, Kimberly Lapsley and husband Sam of Bridgewater, VA; six great grandchildren, Elizabeth Darnell, Chad Sallee, Carrie S. O'Neal, Dylan Jones, Joey Jones, Hillary Jones; great great-grandchildren, Olyvia Darnell, Marrin O'Neal, and Ellie Sallee. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Rev. Johnny Blevins, Rev. Bradley Sallee and Rev. Zack White. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
