Elkin Mr. Billy Jack Mendenhall, age 66, of Dillon Ave., passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Mendenhall was born July 16, 1937 in Yadkin County to Rev. Glenn & Bernice Benton Mendenhall. Mr. Mendenhall was retired from R.J. Reynolds and Phillips Van Heusen. He was a past member of Pfafftown Jaycee's and the civic club of Pfafftown. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas L. Mendenhall. Survivors include: his wife, Linda Eidson Mendenhall of the home; a son, William Glenn Mendenhall of Houston, TX; a daughter, Tammy Mendenhall Webster and husband James L. of Winston Salem; his mother, Bernice Benton Mendenhall of Wilkesboro; a sister, Bonnie Mendenhall Cave and husband Donald M. of State Road; one granddaughter, Amanda Catherine Grippe. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin by Rev. Joe Dell Rust and Dr. David Hughes. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Educational and Research Fund, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and nurses in 5A in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit for their kindness, gentleness and loving care shown to Bill; treating him as a Father and a husband, not just as a patient. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Mendenhall family.
