Jimmie Lee Burcham, 82, of Elkin, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born August 23, 1927 in Wilkes County to James and Ada Key Burcham. Mr. Burcham was a member of Benham Baptist Church and was also a member of VFW Post #10346. He served in the US Navy during World War II and retired from Brendle's. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burcham was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Lee Hanks Burcham. He is survived by two daughters, Ada Inez Turner & her husband J.C. of Jonesville, and April Burcham of Elkin; a brother, Jacob Burcham and his wife Nellie of State Road; a sister, Janet Wagoner and her husband Mickey of Richmond, VA.; three grandchildren, Yvonne Turner Cockerham and her husband Richard of Lenoir, Michelle Lyon Jarvis and her husband Jay of Elkin, and Nicholas Lyon and his wife Christy of Elkin; and four great grandchildren, Kehlyn Jarvis, Brie Jarvis, Lillian Cockerham, and Jada Lyon. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, November 9, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jason Wiles, Rev. Jeff Reeves, and Rev. Jerry Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in Benham Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. Full military honors will be provided by Yadkin VFW Post # 10346.
