George Wesley Poplin

March 6, 1912 — October 22, 2004

Roaring River Mr. George Wesley Poplin, age 92, of Hoots Road, Roaring River, passed away Friday, October 22, 2004. Mr. Poplin was born March 6, 1912 in Wilkes County to Joseph Wilson & Eva Cheek Poplin. Mr. Poplin was a self-employed farmer and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather and was known as a good neighbor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rozella Poplin; a brother; three sisters; and a grandson, Ricky Poplin. Survivors include: three sons, Vernon R. Poplin and wife Patty of N. Wilkesboro, Kenneth D. Poplin and wife Erline of Roaring River, Bobby A. Poplin and wife Myrtle of Ronda; a daughter, Carol LaGrow and husband John of Alexandria, Va.; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church by Rev. Joel Blevins and Rev. Gwyn Anderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Macedonia Baptist Church.
