Elkin Mrs. Bernice Crabbe Combs, age 79, of Elk Court Drive, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Combs was born August 9, 1925 in Wilkes County to Gaither & Emma Blevins Crabbe. Mrs. Combs was a homemaker and a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Combs, four brothers, Zeno Crabbe, W.D. "Bub" Crabbe, Ray Crabbe, Cecil Crabbe; brother-in-Law, Ben Holt. Survivors include: a son, Stan Combs and wife Hilda of Elkin; three daughters, Shelby O'Toole and husband Vernon of Elkin, Vicki Warner of Winston-Salem, Beth Donnelly and husband Kevin of King; two brothers, John Crabbe and wife June of Winston-Salem, James Kenneth Crabbe and wife Alice of Roaring River; two sisters, Kathleen Holt of Elkin, Bonnie Ruth Howard and husband Norman of Winston-Salem; four sisters-in-law; Sis Crabbe of Perryville, Md., Nancy Crabbe of Elizabeth City, Betty Crabbe of Traphill, Jane Crabbe of Burlington; five grandchildren, Patrick O'Toole and wife Sarah, Timothy O'Toole, Christopher O'Toole and wife Jill, John Marsh, April Reece; two great grandchildren, Ian O'Toole and Emma O'Toole; loving and supportive brothers and sisters of Gene Combs. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 13, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Presbyterian Church by Rev. Brian Rummage, Rev. Bobby Norman and Rev. Gayle Ford. Burial will follow at Grassy Creek United Methodist Church. Mrs. Combs will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Surry County 1326 North Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Combs family.
