Elkin Mr. William Leslie Cox, age 88, Elkin passed away Monday, August 17, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cox was born December 17, 1920 in Forsyth County to Eli & Ida Matlock Cox. Mr. Cox was a member of Antioch Methodist Church of Roaring Gap. He attended NCSU after which he enlisted in the United States Marines where he served during WWII. After his time in the military, he moved to Elkin in 1946 with his wife and child and began working with the Hugh Royall Insurance Agency. He later purchased the company which became Royall-Cox Insurance Agency where he later retired from the business. It is still in operation today. Mr. Cox was a member of the Elkin Jaycees, Elkin Kiwanis Club, Elkin Masonic Lodge# 454. He also was an avid fisherman and loved golf. Bill was a man with great family values and a deep love for his family, church and his community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lancaster Cox; sister-in-law, Lynda Lou Misenheimer. Survivors include: Pamella Leslie Cox of Elkin; a sister, Betty Anne Hurt and husband Charlie of Lynchburg, VA; a brother-in-law, H.J. Misenheimer of High Point; grandson, Jeffrey Scott Winebarger and wife Annette of State Road; a great grandchild, Annika Winebarger; a special niece, Heidi McBride and several other nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, August 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Waddell officiating.
