James Haynes

April 26, 1929 — October 24, 2005

Jonesville Mr. James L. "Tom" Haynes, age 76, of Messick Road, passed away Monday, October 24, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Haynes was born April 26, 1929 in Yadkin County to James T. & Alma Bray Haynes. Mr. Haynes was a retired chef and was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville where he was a past deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and past member of Yadkin Baptist Association, Training Union Director and the Lyons Club of Jonesville. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed gardening and telling stories to his grandsons. He also enjoyed volunteering with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of the Foothills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Haynes. Survivors include: his wife, Betty Jo Day Haynes of the home; three daughters, Tommie Jo Paul and husband James of Beaufort, Libby Haynes of Jonesville, Giny Haynes and husband Chris of Hamptonville; three sisters, Doris Holcomb and husband Oscar of Boonville, Imogene King of El Paso, TX, Barbara Swaim of Elkin; five grandsons, Petty Officer Adam Paul and wife Melanie, Sgt. Ken Paul, Logan Haynes, Seth Haynes and Jake Haynes. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jonesville by Rev. Roger Hensley, Dr. Ray Hamilton and Dr. Leon Smith. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jonesville or to the American Cancer Society 4A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Haynes family.
