CAUDLE, Alice ElkinMrs. Alice Myrtle Wall Caudle, 90, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at the Wesley Long Nursing Center in Greensboro. She was born August 14, 1915 in Surry County to the late Lucinda Draughn Wall and W. H. H. "Dickie" Wall. She attended the Zephyr public schools in Surry County and graduated as valedictorian of her class at Dobson High School. Because of her scholarship while in high school, she often assisted teachers in junior high school with their classes and was awarded a scholarship to Elon University. Her life was devoted to her family. She was creative and artistic with her sewing and gardening and loved cooking and reading and collecting recipes. She was an avid reader of the newspaper and loved to have political discussions with her immediate family members. All her life she quoted poetry from memory and continued to use French phrases learned in high school. She loved learning and encouraged her family in their educational endeavors. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie O. Caudle; her son Dickie D. Caudle; sisters Dellar Holbrook, Hester Laffoon and Virgie Morrison; and brothers Monroe Wall, Gaither Wall, Rufus Wall and Harding Wall. She is survived by three daughters: Rita Dennis Toivonen and Kay Ray Mansfield of Winston-Salem; Sybrilla Caudle of Greensboro; and daughter-in-law Geraldine Caudle of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are grandchildren Connie Bobby Yokeley of Wallburg; Karla Richard Kinney of Lewisville; John Toivonen of Atlanta, Georgia; and TanyaGreg Morrisett of Lexington, Massachusetts. Survivors also include five great-grandchildren: Rheannon Stephen Chalfa, Kellen Yokeley, Garrison Kinney, Amy Morrisett and John Morrisett; and sisters Edna Mounce and Elsie Alton Boyd and sister-in-law Nell Mounce Wall. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2006 at Friendship Baptist Church, Rt. 268 East, Elkin with the Rev. Wesley Smith and the Rev. Jonah Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 12, at Hodges Funeral Home, Elkin.
