Clate Snider

May 24, 1923 — February 8, 2006

State Road Mr. Talmadge Clate Snider, age 82, of Old Hwy. 21, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Snider was born May 24, 1923 in Wilkes County to Monroe W. & Pearl Watkins Snider. Mr. Snider retired as owner/operator of Turner Sunoco and was a member of Union United Methodist Church where he served on Administrative Council. He was a member of the choir and taught the adult Sunday School Class for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. Clate served as chief of State Road Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years from 1960-1984. Mr. Snider served as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 644 for many years where he was a vigil member of Order of the Arrow and received many of scouting highest honors including the Silver Beaver. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Marie Turner Snider of the home; a son, Tim Snider and wife Connie of State Road; two brothers, Paul Snider of N. Wilkesboro, Beachel Snider of Germany; three sisters, Hazel Anderson, Geraldine McCall and Jean Kilby all of N. Wilkesboro; two grandchildren, Chase Snider and Ashley Snider. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Union United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Ed McKinney; Rev. John Attaway, A.G. Church and Phillip Thompson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Mr. Snider will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Union United Methodist Building Fund, c/o Sissie Church, 244 Country Club Hills Drive Wilkesboro, NC 28697 or to Boy Scout Troop 644 c/o Joyce Callaway 1137 Mining School Road, State Road, NC 28676.
