Nell Carter Thompson

August 22, 1921 — December 4, 2006

State Road Mrs. Nell Jane Carter Thompson, age 85, of Pleasant Ridge Road, passed away Monday, December 4, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Thompson was born August 22, 1921 in Surry County to John Wesley & Mattie Mae Carter. Mrs. Thompson was retired from Wilkes County Schools as the Lunch Room Manager at CB Eller School. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she was also a member of the choir and sang for over 60 years. She loved her family and loved cooking for them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Carter; a sister, Beulah Carter. Survivors include: Her husband of 60 years, Richard Thompson of the home; a son, Michael Thompson and wife Myra of Little River, SC; a daughter, Becky Flowers and husband Jimmy of High Point; three sisters, Leona Davis of State Road; Anna Collins of Greensboro, Estelle Freeman and husband Harold of McLeansville; a grandchild, Douglas Smith and wife, Amanda; two great grandchildren, Veronica Smith and Jakeb Lee Smith. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. Dan Merritt and Rev. Homer Green. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Thompson will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
