Elkin Mr. Allen Lee Byrd, Sr., age 59, of Austin Traphill Road, passed away Friday, October 21, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Byrd was born June 23, 1946 in Surry County to Samuel Q. & Grace Mae Sparks Byrd. Mr. Byrd was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of East Elkin Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include: His mother, Grace Mae Sparks Byrd of the home; two sons, Allen Lee Byrd, Jr. and wife Yvonne; Timothy Charles Byrd all of Elkin; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Byrd and her fianc Sammy Evans of State Road; eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 24, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stewart Roten. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Byrd family.
