Joyce Ann Hernandez

July 28, 1959 — April 8, 2004

Ronda Mrs. Joyce Ann Hernandez, age 44, loving wife and mother, of Big Bend Road, passed away April 8, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital after a 5 ½ year battle with the skin cancer melanoma. Mrs. Hernandez was born July 28, 1959 in Surry County to Joe Beamer & Edna Hemric Boyd. Mrs. Hernandez was a very active member at Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a member of WMU and a volunteer with Bible School. Joyce was a registered nurse with Wilkes Home Health. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include: her husband, J. Concepcion Hernandez of the home; two daughters, Felicia Hernandez Mathis and her husband Anthony of Hamptonville, Ashley Nicole Hernandez of the home; two sisters, Judy Bullins and her husband Bobby of Traphill, Janet Settle and her husband Jimmy of Elkin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church by Rev. Joel Blevins and Rev. Jimmy Settle. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Mrs. Hernandez will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will accept flowers or Joyce requested that donations can be made to the Nicole Hernandez College Fund c/o Kim Gentry at Yadkin Valley Bank PO Box 888, Elkin, NC 28621.
