State Road, Mrs. Edna Earline Childress Hanes, age 88, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010. Mrs. Hanes was born July 9, 1921 in Wilkes County to Lawson and Nellie Wood Childress. Mrs. Hanes was retired from Chatham manufacturing and was a charter member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She was an avid basket maker and a retired C.B. Eller foster parent. Mrs. Hanes was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and the Pleasant View Women's Christian Circle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Hanes and brothers Melvin Childress and Paul Childress. Survivors include: son Jerry Haynes and wife Barbara of State Road, daughters Barbara Hiatt and husband Clark of State Road and Nancy Carol Hanes of State Road; sisters Elsie Lyon of Elkin, sisters-in-Law Lorene Smith of Elkin, Kathaleen Haynes of State Road, and Ethel Childress of Dobson; grandchildren Cathy Rubel, Sherri Gates, Tracie Grubbs, Gina Cosby, Robin Hiatt, Bruce Haynes, and Bobby Haynes, eleven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Finley McCoury and Rev. Milton Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
