Elkin Mr. Franklin Martin "Moe" Gaither, age 86, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Elkin Healthcare. Mr. Gaither was born October 8, 1920 in Iredell County to Ray & Callie Barber Gaither. Mr. Gaither was retired from Henry Key Grading, Co. and was of the Protestant and Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Hubert Gaither, Ray Gaither, Robert Gaither, Herman Gaither and Paul Gaither, Sr.; a sister, Mager Gaither; two nephews Charles Gaither and Jerry Gaither. Survivors include: his son, Paul E. Gaither, Jr. and wife Beth of Conover; two grandchildren, Paul Vernon Gaither and Charles Eugene Gaither; a sister-in-law, Annie Gaither of Hickory; a niece, Marie Cockerham and husband Billy of Hickory; three other nieces, Carolyn, Robin and Kathy; great nephews, Mark Cockerham of Hickory, Mike, Greg, and Dean Gaither all of Michigan. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stewart Roten. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00-3:45 p.m. prior to the service at Hodges Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 1056 North Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their gratitude to a special nurse Dwayne Francis for his care.
