Roaring River Mrs. Betty Jane Cockerham, age 73, of Cockerham Road, Roaring River, passed away Friday, June 25, 2004 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Cockerham was born January 28, 1931 in Surry County to Harvey & Ethel Shore Carter. Mrs. Cockerham was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Era Lee Durham; a brother, Ralph Carter. Survivors include: her husband, Karol Cockerham of the home; a son, Randy Cockerham and wife Christine of Charlotte; a daughter, Jo Ann Holder and husband Jerry of Elkin; three brothers, Leamon Carter and wife Doris, Danny Ray Carter, Barry Carter and wife Vivian all of Elkin; two sisters, Kathryn Wilmoth, Annie Fay Greene both of Jonesville; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Carter of Elkin; five grandchildren, Aaron Holder, Angie Coe, Trevor Cockerham, Carly Cockerham, Julia Cockerham; two great grandchildren, Abbie Holder and Hogan Cole. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 27, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Everett Carter and Rev. Gary Byrd. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Cockerham will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Cockerham family.
