Mary Lucille Hooper

Lucille "Nannie" M. Hooper passed away Saturday October 21, 2006 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Lucille was the second of three children born to Ed and Ila Dinkins Murphy on January 11, 1921 in Surry County. She married Rev. Cecil Hooper on August 14, 1938. To this marriage, a son was born, William Kent Hooper. She spent many years working for J.C. Penney Company in Elkin, NC. Her most enjoyable and rewarding times were spent as a pastors wife for many years as they traveled to far and wide places, and pastored numerous churches to tell the good news of Jesus Christ. Many people accepted Christ as their Savior through their ministry. In 1964 the Hooper's welcomed into their family with open arms their "only daughter" Patsy Darnell. Bill and Patsy brought her first grandson into the family with the adoption of Patrick Len in December 1965 at nine months of age. Her second grandson arrived June 24, 1967 Byron Kent. They were so proud to now have two beautiful grandsons. Again they were blessed with the addition to her third grandson Joel Edward on August 21, 1972. "Nannie" was blessed to enjoy two precious great granddaughters, Regan Elizabeth "Ellie" and Mary-Claire Hooper. These little girls were "precious jewels" in her sight. Her life was complete with the addition of two more girls to her family, Robin Newman married Ken on August 1, 1992 and Leslie Guyer married Joel on April 8, 2006. Lucille's funeral will be held at West Elkin Baptist Church were she had been a member for many years on Tuesday October 24, 2006 at 2pm conducted by Rev. Larry Stone, Rev. Dwayne Byrd and Rev. Robbie Miller. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-8:30 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Mrs. Hooper will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to West Elkin Baptist Church.
