Monroe Mr. Wade Lee Johnson, age 89, of Heather Lane, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007 after a long and fruitful life. Wade was born October 3, 1917 in Boonville to Amie Edward & Nannie Key Johnson. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesville. He worked for the State Department of Highways while Highway 67 was being built between Jonesville and Boonville. In 1936 he built and operated the first caf in Boonville, he also worked at Chatham Manufacturing Company in Elkin, then he went to work for Johnson Brothers Trucking Company. After that, he moved on to the car business with Fred Shore. Wade moved to Norwood, NC and started Wade Johnson Motors, then bought the Studebaker Dealership in Albemarle, where he retired. Survivors include: his son, Ronnie Johnson and wife Sue Flowers of Monroe; a brother, Tommy Johnson and wife Mary Jo of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Aileen Robinson of Albany, Ga.; two grandchildren, Johnny Lee Johnson and wife Kim of Monroe, Daniel Johnson of Fort Myers, Fla.; four great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Island Ford Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Spencer King. The family will receive friends following the service at Island Ford Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
