Roaring River Mrs. Doris Snow Darnell, age 83, of Austin Little Mountain Road, passed away Sunday October 21, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Darnell was born January 31, 1924 in Randolph County to Robert Edward and Flossie Smith Snow. Mrs. Darnell retired from Wilkes County School System after 31 years as an elementary teacher at C.B. Eller Elementary School. She was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Darnell served as a volunteer for Hospice of Wilkes and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Chatham Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Pamela Darnell. Survivors include: Her husband, Thaddeus "Thad" Darnell of the home. Three sons and daughters in law, Ed Darnell and wife Betty of Inman, SC, Jerry Darnell and wife Donna of Raleigh, Mark Darnell and wife Diane of Roaring River. Five Grandchildren, Benjamin Darnell, Michael Darnell, Lauren Orzchowski, Eddie Money, Dawn Darnell. One great grandchild, Briana Money. A brother, Robert A. Snow of Charlotte. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 23, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Home Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Cave and Rev. Kenneth Jordan. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Darnell will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-8:30 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Pleasant Home Baptist Church or to Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
