Harold George Cooper

July 28, 1925 — May 5, 2009

Thurmond Mr. Harold George Cooper, age 83 of Roaring Gap Church Road, passed away May 5, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Cooper was born July 28, 1925 in Wilkes County to George T. & Vaude Scott Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1944-46 and retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a lifelong member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. His greatest love was his family and he had a lifelong passion for farming. Mr. Cooper was a former Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Smith Cooper; two sisters, Kathleen Townsend and Janie Cockerham. Survivors include: a son, Harold G. Cooper, Jr. and wife Cindy of Thurmond; two daughters, Patsy May and husband Mike of State Road, Deborah Royal and husband Glenn of Elkin; two sisters, Viola Royal of Thurmond, Irene Hemric of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Bradley Royal and wife Traci, Krista Macemore and husband Mark, Amy Blevins and husband Daniel, Matthew Cooper and Colby Cooper; four great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Royal, Kendall Royal, Cole Macemore and Cannon Blevins. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Roaring Gap Baptist Church by Rev. Russ Nixon and Rev. Danny Bauguess. Burial will follow at Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by Wilkes County VFW. Mr. Cooper will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
