Yadkinville, Mrs. Velma Kennedy Jennings, devoted wife of Rev. James E. Jennings, passed away peacefully on Friday at Forsyth Medical Center. She spent 90 years tenderly caring for her family and loving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with whom she is now rejoicing. Mrs. Jennings was born March 5, 1919, in Surry County to Nathaniel and Mary Sprinkle Kennedy. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Full Gospel Tabernacle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by eight brothers Ford, Will, Junior, Bob, Van, Paul and Henry "Tuffy" Kennedy, and Claude Harris. Five sisters, Hattie Shores, Addie Shores, Pearl Mabe, Maude Foreman, and Edith Harris. Survivors include: her husband of 74 years, Rev. James E. Jennings of the home, One son David Michael Jennings of Yadkinville, One daughter, Jeanie Jennings Walker, and her husband Robert of Yadkinville, four grandchildren, Wendy Plummer, and her husband Todd of Yadkinville, Crystal Hamby, Zach Jennings, and Samantha Jennings, all of Wilkesboro, Three great-grandchildren, Rob Brown, T.J. Brown, and Jon Brown, all of Yadkinville, One sister, Lucy Kelly, Three sisters-in-law, Vanice Kennedy, Coleen Kennedy, and Bessie Harris. Funeral Services will be held Monday April 20, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Central Full Gospel Tabernacle, in State Road, conducted by Rev. Bobby Norman, and Rev. Roby Wilcox. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
