Raymond Paul Settle

Mr. Raymond "Paul" Settle, age 80, of Little Elkin Church Road, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem. Mr. Settle was born August 26, 1927 in Surry County to William Henry Settle & Naomie Layell Settle. Mr. Settle retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. in April 1991 after almost 46 years of service and was a member of Little Elkin Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruby Waddell and Hazel Byrd and two brothers: Silas and Dwight Settle. Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Dixie Lee Settle of the home, his only son Ronny Settle and wife Patricia of Whiteville, N.C. and two grandsons: Steven and David Settle who are in college in Greenville, N.C. Other survivors include two brothers: Herbert Settle and wife Alma June of State Road and Joe Settle and wife Loraveen of King, three sisters: Hallie Wooten of Ronda, Mabel Bridges and husband Barnard of Sarasota, Florida, Annie Pearl and husband Holland Bauguess of Traphill, sisters-in-law, Susie and Mary Settle and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Little Elkin Baptist Church by Rev. Gwyn Anderson, a favorite pastor who stood by the family. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Jason Caudill, Eric Colbert, Jamie Poteat, Dustin Billings, Daniel Billings and Nathan Roten. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7-9p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Little Elkin Baptist Church Building Fund.
