Opal Shoffner Wishon

Elkin Mrs. Opal Shoffner Wishon, age 87 of Elkin, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Wishon was born September 15, 1923 in Wilkes County to Marvin and Alice Carter Shoffner. Mrs. Wishon retired from Royall's Soda Shop and was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parent she was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Wishon, a son, J.E. Wishon, A brothers Joe Shoffner and a sister Margaret Blackburn. Survivors include: A daughter, Thelma Wall and husband Dennis of Elkin, two grandchildren, Leree Mosteller, Gray Burchette and wife Melinda. A great granddaughter Mia Burchette. Her faithful canine companion, Lhasa apsa, C.J. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday April 7, 2011 at Cool Springs Baptist Church at 2:30pm conducted by Rev. David Key and Rev. Rebecca Maynard. Burial will follow in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:30pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church 1467 Cool Springs Church Road Elkin, NC 28621 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Walker and his staff, Mountain Valley Hospice and Betty Wallace and Magdalene Wishon for the loving care shown to Mrs. Wishon during her illness.
