State Road
Mr. Richard Lafayette Buxton, age 82, of State Road, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Buxton was born July 24, 1923 in Yadkin County to Sidney Allen & Percy Ellen Winters Buxton.
Mr. Buxton was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the WWII era. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 42 years as a U.S. postal clerk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Buxton and a sister, Opal Wilkerson; two half sisters, Clarie E. Phillips and F. Marie Phillips.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lana Tinker and husband W. John M. Tinker III of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Laurie T. Rich and husband Bryan, W. John M. Tinker IV and wife Rozan-Marie, R. Jeffrey Tinker all of Greensboro; a great granddaughter, Madison T. Oxendine; a half brother, Fred A. Phillips of State Road; fourteen nieces, eight nephews; devoted and loving extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ken Hensley. Burial will follow at Grassy Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
