Ronald "Pete" Southard age 66, of Poplar Springs Road passed away Saturday May 13, 2006 at his home. Mr. Southard was born November 19, 1939 in Surry County to Swanson and Edith Key Southard. Mr. Southard was a truck driver and attended Bessies Chapel Baptist Church and he was also a veteran of the US Navy. Mr. Southard was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother Edith Key Southard of Elkin, two sons Ronald Southard and his wife Karen of Mt. Park and Rodney Southard of Wilmington. One step daughter Regina Copland, of Winston Salem. One sister Mildred Medley and her husband Vernon of Elkin. Three grandchildren Kerri Southard, Joshua Southard, and Kenneth Southard. Funeral services for Mr. Southard will be held Tuesday May 16, 2006 at 2:00pm, conducted by Rev Ralph Groce at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Bessies Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at Hodges Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00pm one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Heart Foundation or the Arthritis Foundation.
