Stella Day Newman

December 20, 1916 — February 18, 2006

Mrs. Stella Day Newman age 89, of Johnson Ridge Road passed away Saturday February 18, 2006 at Heritage Care. Mrs. Newman was born in Wilkes County December 20, 1916 to Richard and Alberta Tilley Day. Mrs. Newman was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the church Choir. In addition to her parents Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by two brothers Johnny Day and Sam Day, three sisters Edna Harper, Marie Creed, and Pauline Martin. Survivors include her husband of 70 years Dallas A. Newman of the home, one son David L. Newman and wife Sheila of Elkin, three brothers, R.B. Day, Edworth Day both of Winston Salem and Fred Day of Elkin, three sisters Sue Long of East Bend, Ruby Hawks of Ellerby, and Willie Newman of Elkin, one granddaughter Melissa Newman Longworth and husband Nicholas of Elkin and two great grandchildren Austin and Cole Longworth. A special Sister in-law Myrtle Newman and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Newman will he held Tuesday February 21, 2006 at 11:00am at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Eddie Day and Dr. Gary Byrd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 10:00-11:00am at Hodges Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted of memorials can be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
