Grady Lester Poplin

July 20, 1924 — July 17, 2005

Elkin, Mr. Grady Lester Poplin, age 80, of Greenhorn Road passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Poplin was born July 20, 1924 in Surry County to Tom and Eula Cockerham Poplin. Mr. Poplin was retired from N.L. Fasteners and was a member of Benham Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers: Clyde Poplin, Otis Poplin, Lawrence Poplin, Denver Poplin, two sisters: Bernice Swaim and Bonnie Pinnix. Survivors include: his wife Doris Bauguess Poplin of the home, six sons: Dallas Poplin and wife Gisela of State Road, Dennis Poplin and wife Linda of Hamptonville, Loyd Poplin and wife Carol of Elkin, Ronnie Poplin and wife Barbara of Roaring River, Charles Poplin of Elkin and Neil Poplin and wife Penny of Elkin. One brother; Ivan Poplin of Jonesville, one sister; Lucille Pardue of Lexington, twenty grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Benham Baptist Church by Rev. Ted Combs and Rev. Tim Call. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes County.
