Carl Powers

Elkin Mr. Carl Durham Powers, age 82, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Powers was born October 20, 1925 in Surry County to Rev. Jesse L. & Annie Martin Powers. Mr. Powers was a veteran of the United States Army where he served with the 82nd Airborne during World War II. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Powers Phillips; three brothers, James C. Powers, Eugene Powers and David L. "Red" Powers, Sr. Survivors include: a brother, Jesse L. Powers, Jr. and wife Buena of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law, Kathryne Powers and Clyde Powers both of Elkin; nine nieces and nephews; fourteen great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Elkin First Baptist Church, 110 Gwyn Ave., Elkin, NC 28621.
