Mrs. Ennis Cockerham Nixon, age 94 passed away Tuesday June 20, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Nixon was born March 27 1912 in Surry County to John and Merkie Waddell Cockerham, she was a homemaker and of a non denominational faith. In addition to her parents Mrs. Nixon was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Nixon, two grandchildren Dawn Webster and Craig Marion; seven brothers Carl, Tyra, Arlie, Denver, Dennis, Reece and Cyras Cockerham. Survivors include three daughters, Claudette Sprinkle and husband Tommy of Elkin, Kay Rice and husband Forest of Thurmond, and Carolyn Nixon of the home. Two sisters, Elsie Welborn and Violet Smith both of Elkin. Six grandchildren and spouses, Jonathan Sprinkle and wife Kristi, Joel Sprinkle and wife Beth, Jay Sprinkle and wife Lori, Joshua Webster, Nicholas Webster, and Noah Webster. Four great grandchildren; Braden Sprinkle, Whitney Sprinkle, Nathan Sprinkle, and Elizabeth Sprinkle. Thirty Step grandchildren and eleven step great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Nixon will be held Friday June 23, 2006 at 2:00pm at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Tom Nussbaum, Robert Johnson, and Lois Culvert. Burial will follow in Mtn. Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7-9pm at Hodges Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Claudette Sprinkle, 154 E. Manor Ridge Road, Elkin.
