On Friday, October 15, 2010, one of God's faithful servants was called home. James Edward "Ed" Jennings, 93 of Yadkinville, passed away peacefully and is now rejoicing in heaven. Mr. Jennings was born September 23, 1917 in Wilkes County to Dolphus Leander and Josie Joines Jennings. He married Velma Hill Kennedy in September of 1927 and spent 74 loving years with her before Mrs. Jennings was called home in April of 2009. Mr. Jennings served his country in the US Army during WWII. He survived the Battle of the Bulge and countless other battles in Europe before returning home with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Heroism in Battle. Making good on his promise to God during the war, Mr. Jennings committed his life into service for Christ and was called into the ministry in 1952. Throughout his life, he pastored many churches in Wilkes and Surry counties and was president of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Association from 1978 to 2003. Mr. Jennings was also a carpenter by trade and retired from Foster-Sturdivant as a Project Foreman. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Jennings was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters: George, Sam, Oather, Grace, Bessie, Ruby, Nellie, Claude, Lee, and an infant sister. Left to honor his memory are two children, Jeanie Walker and husband Robert of Yadkinville and David Jennings of Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Wendy Plummer and husband Todd of Yadkinville, Crystal Hamby, Zachary Jennings, and Samantha Jennings, all of North Wilkesboro; and three great grandchildren, Rob, TJ, and Jon Brown all of Yadkinville. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Central Full Gospel Tabernacle with Rev. Bobby Norman, Rev. Tommy Conley, and Rev. Roby Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens, with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for their loving care of Mr. Jennings during his final weeks.
