Mrs. Susie Tharpe Poplin, age 92 of Ronda, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Poplin was born January 9, 1919 in Wilkes County to C.C. Tharpe and Ada Johnson Tharpe. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Susie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a consummate nurturer beginning very early in her life as the eldest child in a family of ten. Susie was a genuine soul with a shy smile and a kind word for everyone. Known for her hospitality, her door was always open and you were often greeted by the sweet smell of whatever happened to be baking or simmering. Although the years had taken their toll on her physically, she never complained and the love for her family and faith in God never wavered. Her family rejoices as she is walking in Glory with our Heavenly Father. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Poplin; son, Brent Poplin; brother, Lewis Tharpe; and sisters, Ruth Pardue and Ada Lou Dimmette. Survivors include: sons, Ivan Poplin and wife Linda of Hamptonville, Sandy Poplin and wife Rosann of Ronda, Coy Poplin and wife Sara of Ronda, and Jeff Poplin and wife Beth of Elkin; daughters, Tommie Ford and husband Bobby of Elkin and Linda Poplin and husband Sam of Ronda; brothers, Frank Tharpe, Charlie Tharpe, and Conard Tharpe; sisters, Frances Key, Hope Combs and June Tharpe; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
