Janie Elizabeth Sherrill

February 25, 1920 — May 13, 2010

Janie Elizabeth Sherrill, 90 of Elkin, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Ms. Sherrill was born February 25, 1920 in Iredell County to John Lawrence and Della Cavin Sherrill. She was an active member of Elkin Presbyterian Church where she was a choir member for over 40 years. Ms. Sherrill was also a member of the community chorus for 19 years, and she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Tape Ministry, and Blood Mobile. She was an all American basketball player for the Chatham Blanketeers and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, Ms. Sherrill was preceded in death by eight siblings. She is survived by her twin sister Jennie Sherrill of the home; Margaret Mayes of Elon, and Mary Salley & husband Edward of Glen Cove, NY; beloved pet Gracie; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and church family. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Crestwood Memorial Gardens followed by a memorial service at Elkin Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm with Rev. Brian Rummage officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elkin Presbyterian Church, 151 Hillcrest Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express their gratitude to all friends and family for their love and support.
