Ronda Mr. Lester Harold Cox, age 61, of Little Elkin Church Road, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cox was born March 13, 1945 in Surry County to Daniel Lester & Ida Jane Wilmoth Cox. Mr. Cox attended Benham Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during Vietnam. He was also a member of the Army Reserve, 108th Training Division and the Army National Guard Unit in Elkin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Cox, Jay Cox and Ted Cox; a sister, Faye Cox. Survivors include: his wife, Catherine Tilley Cox of the home; a son, Seth Daniel Cox of Hamptonville; a stepson, Cory H. Wilmoth of State Road; three sisters, Maxine Glover and husband, Carl of Lexington, Betty Mullis and husband Chuck of Elkin, Dovie Jenkins and husband, Bud of Hamptonville; several nieces and nephews; his "Boys" Poncho and Cisco. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Benham Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Wiles. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Posts 2019 Mount Airy and 9436 Pilot Mountain. Serving as pallbearers are friends that served with him in the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard, Russell Edwards, Steve Collins, Darrell Holloway, Leroy Hayes, John Sidden and Lloyd Sparks. Mr. Cox will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Benham Baptist Church, Benham Road, Elkin, NC 28621 or to the Cancer Center of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157.
