Jewell Brown Pruett, 81, of Elkin Highway 268, Ronda, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Janice Carlton of Lincolnton, NC. Born in Elkhorn, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Fannie Brown of Moravian Falls, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. L. D. Pruett, her daughter, Brenda Pruett Tate, and her son, David Doyle Pruett. Mrs. Pruett received her teaching degree from Appalachian State University, and taught for many years in the Wilkes County School System. She loved her students and truly had a passion for teaching. She was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church, where she was a choir member for many years and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a 50 year member of the North Carolina Order of Eastern Star, where she held state and national positions. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by daughters, Diane P. Scruggs and husband David, of Inman, S.C., Janice P. Carlton and husband Rick, of Lincolnton, N.C. and daughter in law, Donna Pruett of Ronda; eight grandchildren, Brian Harris, Chad Harris, Cayla Carlton, Richard Carlton, Hilary Pruett, Justin Pruett, Jennifer Pruett and Lewis Pruett; and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Nicholas Harris. Sisters, Hope Pennell and husband Fred, Anna Lee Lewis and husband Ed, and brothers Taylor Brown and wife Jean, and Rex Brown and wife Brenda also survive Jewell. She was loved by many special friends and by young people who knew her as Mamaw. Funeral services are Sunday, January 7, 2007, at 3:00 pm, at Elkin First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Bobby Diveney. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service.
