Mrs. Bertha White Hudspeth, age 100, formerly of Elkin passed away Thursday, July 08, 2004 in Charlotte, NC where she has resided since 1999.She was born August 19, 1903 in Surry County, NC the daughter of the late William Santford and Manie Guyer White. Mrs. Hudspeth was preceded in death by her husband Sidney Cleveland Hudspeth in 1976. Mrs. Hudspeth retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company in 1959 and, later, worked for the Reeves Theater until 1980. Graveside services will be held at the Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2004. Services will be conducted by Dr. Bill Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Elkin, where Mrs. Hudspeth was a member and by Rev. Cathy George from Matthews Presbyterian Church in Matthews, NC.Surviving are three daughters, Joan Olsen Pinnix of Elkin, Helen Hudspeth McGroarty of Scottsdale, AZ, and Evelyn Hudspeth McLeod of Charlotte; three stepdaughters, Maude Donovan of Arlington, Va., Emma Boyles of Pilot Mountain, and Mary Lee Micheleski of Winston-Salem. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
