Gertrude Sloop

October 17, 1923 — October 11, 2005

State Road Mrs. Gertrude "Jackie" Guyer Sloop, age 81, of Fax Welborn Road, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Sloop was born October 17, 1923 in Surry County to Robert & Gertrude Isaacs Guyer. Mrs. Sloop was retired from Guardian Care and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walton Guyer and Samuel Guyer. Survivors include: two sons, Jim Sloop and wife Dana of State Road, Bob Sloop and wife Sheila of Hickory; a daughter, Sarah Hutchens and husband Steve of Yadkinville; two brothers, Joe Guyer and Jake Guyer, both of State Road; three sisters, Ella Golden of Mtn. Park, Mary Blevins of Rural Hall, Dolly Sloop of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Josh Sloop, Allison Griffin, Amanda Hutchins, Gabe Sloop, Nathan Shores; four great grandchildren, Caleb Sloop, Will Sloop, Ella Sloop and Emily Shores. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Steve Kramm and Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow in the Guyer Family Cemetery. Mrs. Sloop will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive #999 Charlotte, NC 28215-3220. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Sloop family.
