Hiram Aldon Harris

Hiram Aldon Harris, 91 of Jonesville, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Harris was born June 7, 1918 in Carroll County, VA to Hiram Archie and Margie Alice Shores Harris. He was a member of Central Full Gospel Church and was a member of numerous gospel groups, including, Hymntyme and The Trio. He also served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Harris had many titles: "Daddy", "Papa", "Pop", "Uncle Aldon", just to name a few; but the title that means more than anything is "Redeemed". Mr. Harris was redeemed by God's amazing grace many years ago. He was well known by many and loved by all who met him. He shared the love of God with all he came in contact with. Mr. Harris was best known for singing and teaching the old four part harmony to many generations. Now he has joined the choir of all choirs. He was met by family and loved ones waiting, never to be departed again. His legacy will live among his family forever. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Marie Harris; a son, Gene A. Harris; two brothers, Mack Harris and Mayburn Harris; and two sisters, Edith Cranford and Mary Smith. He is survived by two sons, James Billy Harris and wife Eva of Thurmond and Donald Howard Harris and wife Margaret of Verbena, AL; a daughter, Nita Harris England and husband Bobby of Casar, NC; a brother, Ted Harris and wife Judy of Thurmond; a sister, Kathleen Broyhill of Jonesville; eight grandchildren, Craig Harris and wife Connie, Anya Byrd and husband Neal, Lisa Harris and Kenneth Motley, Lynn Branch and husband Johnny, Sandy Dale Childress and wife Tracy, Keith Harris, Brian Harris and wife Ashley, and Blaine Owens and husband Tom; and fourteen and a half great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, March 12, 2010 at 11:00am at Central Full Gospel Church with Rev. Bobby Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors, provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Elkin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Full Gospel Church, PO Box 35 State Road, NC 28676. The family wishes to thank Dr. Groves, Dr. Shuck, Dr. Jeannot, and the ICU staff of HCMH for all they did to take care of Mr. Harris during his last days.
