Lillian Marie Collins

September 5, 1920 — April 6, 2005

Elkin Mrs. Lillian Marie Johnson Collins, age 84, of Johnson Ridge Road, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Collins was born September 5, 1920 in Surry County to Jennings Bryan & Maude L. Johnson. Mrs. Collins retired after 26 years from JC Penny. She was a faithful volunteer and circle leader at Elkin Valley Baptist Church. She was also a volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary, thrift shop, Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministry and Meals on Wheels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband R. R. "Pete" Collins. Survivors include: a daughter, Sandra Collins Blackburn and husband Bill of State Road; a brother, James Johnson of Elkin; a sister, Mattie Johnson Gentry of Ft. Collins, Colorado; two grandchildren, Lori Blackburn Gwyn and husband Will, Barry Blackburn; two great grandchildren, Richard Gwyn and Sarah Gwyn. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church by Rev. Johnny Blevins. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund.
