Dr. Allie Hamilton Duncan, age 82 of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Heritage Healthcare of Elkin. He was born May 3, 1928 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to Allie A. and Nellie Jones Duncan. He graduated Roanoke Rapids High School in June of 1946 where he lettered in varsity football and became an Eagle Scout. Dr. Duncan was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy for eight years. After his Navy service he attended UNC-CH for eight years obtaining a DDS. In 1964 he married Mary Ruth Callaway of Mountain Park, NC and moved to Elkin where he practiced dentistry for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin, the Elkin Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club, the Elkin Rescue Squad, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the NRA, the US LST Association, and the American Dental Association. Survivors include: his wife Mary Ruth Callaway Duncan of the home; daughters, Nancy Duncan Stanton and her husband Christopher of Goose Creek, SC and Heather Leigh Duncan of Elkin; grandchildren, Mary Grace Stanton, David Hamilton Stanton, and Lillie Elizabeth Sawyers. Visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at Elkin Funeral Service. The funeral will be conducted Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin.
