Elkin Mrs. Virginia Dare Ross Billings, age 82, of Elkin passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Billings was born February 3, 1927 in Wilkes County to Calvin Alexander & Myrtle Harris Ross. Mrs. Billings was a member of Benham Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Billings; a grandson, Darold Wager; great grandson, Gage Royal; sons-in-law, James Oliver Pickett and John Vincent; brothers, Posey Ross, Euri Ross, James Ross, Doyle Ross, Lonnie Ross, and Charlie Ross; sisters, Rita Aeschliman, Beatrice Hancock, Vivian Towe, and Jessie Lee Mauldin. Survivors include: daughters, Betty Pickett of Jonesville, Wanda Waddell and husband Jackie of King, Donna Martin of Hamptonville, Mahala Nichols of Jonesville; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Benham Baptist Churchy by Rev. Roger Pickett. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family would like to express their gratitude to the dietary staff at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and all the special nurses that cared for her and to the one that she gave chocolate candy to.
