Elkin Mrs. Ola Jean Cockerham Prevette, age 85, of Hawthorne Road, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Prevette was born March 25, 1921 in Surry County to Luther Edgar & Laura Jane Lane Cockerham. Mrs. Prevette was co-owner of Roy's Restaurant and was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Hospitality Committee. She was also a member of the Elkin Garden Club, and she volunteered at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and Meals on Wheels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Prevette, Sr.; three brothers, Tommy Cockerham, Reece Cockerham and Fred Cockerham. Survivors include: two sons, Roy Lee Prevette, Jr. and wife Sharon of Winston-Salem, David Jeffrey Prevette and wife Sherry of Elkin; two daughters, Mary Jane Prevette of Winston-Salem, Kim Caballero and husband Herman of Elkin; two brothers, James Vance Cockerham of Charlotte, John Henry Cockerham of Lakeland, Florida; two sisters, Lucille Cockerham Golden of Elkin, Ruby Roette Peeples of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Christopher Prevette, Ross Prevette, Ryan Doss, Nicole Shinault, Kimberly Hope Kimmel, Jessica Caballero, Tiffany Prevette; ten great grandchildren, Zachary Prevette, Nicholas Prevette, Isaac Prevette, Christopher Doss, Mason Doss, Destiny Rose, Christopher Kimmel, Joshua Shinault, Aalya Garcia, Jeffrey Dillon Kimmel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin First Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Prevette will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Elkin First Baptist Church, 128 Gwyn Avenue, Elkin, NC 28621.
