Elkin Francis Alonzo "Buck" Jarvis, age 93, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, he was of Winston Road, Jonesville for many years until July of 2004 when he moved to Parkwood Retirement Community. In recent months became a residence of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center because of declining health. Mr. Jarvis was born June 19, 1914 in Forsyth County to Wallace & Ela Burton Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis was retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 52 years of service; he was a member of Bethesda Moravian Church in Winston Salem and was a member of Morning Star Moravian Fellowship in Asheville. Buck was a longtime member of Elkin Rescue Squad and former Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 625 Jonesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Gough Jarvis; and a daughter, Frances Jean Hembree. Survivors include: a son, Bruce Jarvis and wife Judi of Marion; two grandchildren, Kimberly Martin of Weaverville, Matthew Jarvis of Brunswick County, NC; two step grandchildren, Gregory Boone of Travelers Rest, SC, Andrea Beams of Naples, Fla.; one great grandchild, Corey Martin; three step great grandchildren, Kendall and Caleb Boone, Delainey Beams. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Robert Peek. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home.
