Elkin, Mrs. Sarah Mae Myers Cheek, age 82 widow of Mr. Jessie Herman Cheek who preceded her in death on April 10, 2003, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Yadkin County on April 30, 1928 to Reggie and Maggie Hanes Myers. Mrs. Cheek was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company and made many friends there. She was a life time member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Cheek loved to bake and her delicious cakes and pies were enjoyed by many. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by sisters Lucille Sexton and Grace Adkins; niece Alda Cox; and nephew Farrell Adkins. Mrs. Cheek leaves to cherish her memory, daughters Carol Cheek Poplin and her husband Loyd of Elkin and Kathy Cheek of Cornelius; grandsons Brock Holbrook and wife Dina of Winston-Salem and Chad Poplin of Elkin; great grandson Cole Poplin whom she nurtured and loved dearly; nieces Jo Ann Kennedy, Carol Pardue, Shirley Caudill, Debbie Hutchins; nephew Jeff Adkins whom she loved as her own; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Cardwell and Rev. Shane Pardue officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hopsice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center Alzheimer's Unit; Teresa Creech caregiver; special friends Fern Johnson, Arlene and Debbie Reedy; Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home; Team Nurse; and Gentiva Home Health for their loving and compassionate care.
