Ruby White Snow

August 13, 1914 — December 6, 2010

Mrs. Ruby Helen Snow, age 96, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at Yadkin Nursing Center. The first of four children, she was born in Surry County to the late James H. and Ella McCann White. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George R. Snow in 1982. Surviving are two sons she made proud, Col. Jack Snow, USAF Ret and wife, Polly of Summerfield NC; granddaughters Sandra Snow and husband Jon Reed of Williamston MI and Michelle Snow of Madison, NC; great grandchildren Lochlyn and Siri Reed of Williamston, MI; Tony G. Snow and wife, Bonnie of Yadkinville, NC; grandchildren Karen Hodge and husband Wendell of Oak Ridge, NC and great granddaughter, Brooke; Sheila Woods and husband Mike of Julian, NC; great granddaughters Amy and Megan Key of Julian, NC. Additional survivors include her three siblings, Anna Laura White Harris Chrisley, Elkin, Artis White, State Road and Bill White and wife Jackeye, Wilton Manors, FL. Known affectionately as "Miss Ruby" or "Granny Ruby", she spent her life in the Mining Ridge community of Wilkes County. She lacked one semester graduating Mountain Park Institute. She took great pride in being a farmer's wife and the mother of two boys as well being a member of the community. Until an accident in 2009, she attended Mining Ridge Baptist Church. Her broad array of family, friends and neighbors was her primary source of pride and joy. She discovered a whole new family of friends awaiting her at Share-A-Home, an assisted living facility, in Boonville. Until the age of 94, she did her own lawn mowing, flower and vegetable gardening, and lived independently. Her Bible reading in private as well as her needlework and visits by family and friends brought her strength and joy. She would relate to the humbleness she frequently felt by both words and deeds of others. Friends were valued as relatives. Nieces, nephews and neighboring kids were more like her children. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Mining Ridge Baptist Church with her Pastor Keith Wood officiating. Burial will follow in State Road Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Wade White, Ronny White, Wendell Hodge, Mike Woods, Mickey Snow and Rod Snow will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a consideration to State Road Primitive Baptist Cemetery Trust c/o Lou W. Hampton, 1384 CC Camp Rd., Elkin, NC 28621 or Mining Ridge Baptist Cemetery Fund c/o Cynthia Baldwin, 487 Barker Rd., Elkin, NC 28621.
